Reception Music Ideas From Your Guests

A relatively new trend or idea that is gaining in popularity in the wedding world is the requesting of song ideas from the guests to be played at the reception. I like this idea for a couple of reasons. One, you get a really good idea of what type of music your guests enjoy. Too many times I have seen a bride and groom insist on a certain type of music they like that in the end does not appeal to their guests. The result is an empty dance floor most of the night. The second reason is this gives your guests a vested interest in your reception. They are eager to dance to the song they chose. Now of course this plan really only works if you are using a DJ or an IPod for your wedding.

The request for favorite songs can be printed on the RSVP or on a card by itself. The guests fill it out and return it with the RSVP. There are several popular wordings to request this:

A sweet one I found is:
We want our reception to be a celebration of us and the people we love and are sharing the day with. Please request a song or two that may remind you of us, or one that you would like to hear!
or
So here is your chance to tell us what songs make you want to dance. Your requests_______________________________
or
One song guaranteed to get you on the dance floor_____________________
Or you can always go with simply:
Song request #1__________________________
Song request #2_________________________

So if you are having trouble deciding what music you want played at the reception or you want to be sure your guest love the music, maybe this is the way you should go.
