Traditionally What Costs Does The Groom Cover for the Wedding?

I received a question from a mother of the bride a few days ago asking "exactly what is the groom and his family suppose to pay for?"  I thought it was a very good question and one that we should talk about here.

Traditionally, the groom and his family pay for engagement and wedding rings, gifts for groom's attendants, the bride's bouquet, and boutonnieres for groomsmen. They cover the mothers' and grandmothers' flowers.  They also are responsible for the Officiant fee, marriage license, honeymoon, and rehearsal dinner.

Now this doesn't mean it has to be done this way.  We have couples and their families that have split the cost of everything, ones where the groom has paid for everything and ones where the bride or groom's family has covered everything.  It's really just what works best for your situation.  Talk to your parents and find out what they are able or willing to pay for and go from there.
