Ok, this is not a tip; it is a flat out warning!! Do not, let me repeat that DO NOT, mail your invitations without first going to the post office to have both your invitation and your RSVP weighed and sized for the correct postage.
Remember to include all your enclosures when you have them weighed. So if you are sending a map, reception card, etc. along with the RSVP in your invitation, make sure they are all in the envelope when weighed. Also, DO NOT forget to put postage on the RSVP envelopes to make it easy for guests to return to you.
After everything is weighed and stamped, mail an invitation to yourself. When it arrives in your mailbox in great shape, you will know it is ok to mail the rest.

Great advice!
Especially in the case of odd-shaped envelopes which tend to be more expensive to mail.
We frequently hear of conflicting rates being charged by different post offices so it is a good idea to check with yours in person.
