Wedding at the Cliff's Chapel and a Reception at the Cliff's Valley

Willrich Bridal helped with the wedding of Tracey and Chris this weekend.  The wedding ceremony was at the Cliff’s Chapel and the reception was at the Cliff’s Valley Clubhouse.  This was a destination wedding for Tracey, Chris and their friends and family.  The guest list was kept small and intimate, so that guests could be treated to something really special. 

This wedding had so many great ideas that it’s going to take me two or three posts to cover them all.  For now, here are a few of my favorite pictures from the day.

A Planner's Guilty Please - Tori and Dean's sTORIbook Weddings

So do you watch Tori and Dean’s sTORIbook Weddings?  When I first heard they were doing this show, I have to admit I thought great another wedding planner show, where they take a couple and throw all the money in the world at their wedding and poof the perfect wedding.  But this one is a little different.  It does actually show some of the challenges behind planning a wedding and some of the things that can go wrong.  Of course there is still a huge wad of money thrown into the mix and everything comes out perfect in the end, but I think it is worth watching.

Check it out on the Oxygen channel if you get the chance.  Oh and I love the way Tori and Dean work as a team, without any fights.  Richard are you listening...lol

Now You Can Have Your Wedding at The Green Valley Country Club, in Greenville SC

Yesterday, Richard and I visited Green Valley Country Club, here is Greenville, SC.  We met with Garnette Brown, the membership/event coordinator.  The club has decided to allow rental of the club by non-member brides that come through a planner .  You can have both your wedding and reception at the club or since the club is located so close to Furman this would be a good reception choice if you are having your ceremony at Furman, Pretty Place or the Cliff’s Chapel.

Rental fee for the entire club on a Saturday is $1,350 with a $2000 food and beverage minimum.  The club has 7,500 square feet of banquet and meeting space located on an 18 hole golf facility.    The ballroom will hold around 100 people for a sit down dinner and there are other rooms that could hold overflow guests.  There is a beautiful bar area, perfect for your cocktail hour. They have a glass atrium adjoining the ballroom making it a great space to have a buffet set up.  Table, chairs and white linens are included in your rental. Outside is a patio area were you could have your ceremony facing a mountain view.

My Thoughts on the Royal Wedding

Yes, yes, I got up at 4:00 am and watched the royal wedding.  Are you kidding?   Did you think I would miss it?  I was really looking forward to it and it did not disappoint.  I thought the royal couple looked spectacular.

The flowers were pretty, I would have liked it to be a little more over the top, but still not bad.  The run on lilies of the valley flowers will probably be huge (but don’t count on using them, unless you go silk, they are uber expensive and very delicate.)

I thought the real scene stealers were the guests and their outfits, especially the hats.  Wow, not being a hat person myself, I had no idea that there were that many different over the top creative hats out there.  I’m wondering if hats are going to be the next big thing here in the US.  I’m not sure how I would feel about that.  I love looking at them, but I’m not sure I want to wear them.

My main hope for the effect of this wedding on weddings here is South Carolina, is maybe we can move away just a little from the more relaxed weddings and move back toward the more traditional elegant weddings.  That's where my heart really is.

SC Island Wedding - Easter Weekend

Not many people are lucky enough to get married on a private island, but Howard and Emily were.  We were lucky enough to be invited to help out.  It was a beautiful, but very warm and windy Saturday afternoon on an island right off of Folly Beach, SC, a perfect day for a small intimate wedding.

Decisions - Deciding on Your Reception Centerpieces

A mixture of both tall and low centerpieces

Your next decision will be centerpieces. After you decide colors, and types of flowers (or candles, feathers, whatever) you’re going to have to decide do you want tall centerpieces, low centerpieces or a mixture of both.

There are several things to consider before making this decision.

#1 is of course is budget. Tall centerpieces are normally more costly than low. They are larger and the vases are more expensive to rent.

#2 is ceiling height. If you reception area has really tall ceilings, all low centerpieces can end up feeling lost in the room.  The same is true if the ceiling is low.  If the ceiling is low and all the centerpieces are tall it will seem overwhelming to guests when they enter.

Remember low centerpieces have to be low enough that guests can see over them and tall centerpieces have to be tall enough that guests can see under them.
