What Goes Into Setting Up a Reception Tent

Ever wondered what goes into setting up a tent for a wedding reception.  We have a wedding under a tent this weekend and tent setup started today.  They actually started setting up about 9:00.  We were there at 1:00 and took some pictures I thought you might find interesting.  Enjoy.

The Budget Bride's Secret to Wow Table Linens

As we all know renting overlays (decorative small table cloths that go over your solid linens) to add pop and wow to your wedding linens is not cheap.  With prices running anywhere from $15 up to $55 or more per table it can quickly add up to a chunk of change.  But there is a cheaper way to do it. 

The secret is chair sashes.  Most venues include white linens with your rentals.  If these are floor length linens you are in luck.  Top these with anywhere from one to three chair sashes, that rent for one to three dollars a piece and you have a great look that is not the budget breaker of overlays.

Heat - Another Reason For a Plan B at Your Outdoor Ceremony

Sometimes rain is not the only reason you need a plan B.  Every bride and groom knows (or should know) that when planning an outdoor wedding always have a plan B in case of rain. The past few weeks have proven there is another reason you can need a plan B.  With heat as intense as we have been having here in the South, planning a wedding in the open without shade is just not an option if you want comfortable guests. 

No guest wants to sweat in their party clothes.  Think of men in those sweltering suits.  Women have hair and makeup issues in the heat.  Sitting and broiling in the sun is not going to have guests talking about how lovely your ceremony was. 

If the weather is going to be hot, then plan on bringing in a tent.  It will provide shade for not only the guests but those expensive flowers you purchased for your ceremony.  Since flowers are set up early on the wedding day, the last thing you want is for them to be frying in the sun until time for your ceremony. 

Remember, your guests will be seated anywhere from an hour to 30 minutes before your ceremony even starts.  That’s a long time to sit in the sun for anyone, especially children and the elderly.  Make sure that you provide shade in the form of a tent or at the least parasols.  Also, make sure to offer cold bottles of water to the guests as they are seated.  Your guest should enjoy your ceremony, not be miserable.

The Thought of Our First Dance Terrifies Me - What Should I Do?

Sometimes the first dance is one of the most emotionally packed moments for the bride and groom, full of love, joy and devotion.  Other times, the first dance is three to four minutes of absolute terror. If the couple is shy or does not enjoy dancing, standing there doing the high school shuffle can be almost unbearable.  Then it’s followed by the terror of knowing you have other special dances coming up.  There is the father/daughter, mother/son dances to further terrorize the happy couple.

If this is you, maybe I can help.  Instead of dancing the entire first dance song alone, why not dance for a few moments then split up and bring your parents up.  The bride would bring her father up to dance with her and the groom brings the bride’s mother to the floor to dance.  A few minutes later the bride’s father takes his wife as his dance partner and the bride and groom bring up the grooms parents to dance.  The groom’s father dances with the bride and the groom’s mother with her son.  A few minutes later the groom reclaims his bride and the groom’s father dances with his wife.  You now have three happy couples on the dance floor. So not only have you not had to dance the whole song alone you have also gotten all the “special” dances out of the way in one shot.

Another Sweet Thank You From a Willrich Bride

You know every day you go to your mail box expecting just bills and junk mail, but once in a while you get a really sweet surprise.  That's what I got today when I found a thank you note from one of our recent brides.  It's so wonderful to know you helped make a bride and groom's dream come true.  This is when I really love my job!

A New Reception Venue in Downtown Greenville, SC - The Loft at Falls Park

Last week we toured a new event site in Greenville.  Located in Greenville’s historic West End above Postcards from Paris it is a great location for a wedding reception.  With views of Main Street or Falls Park it might be just what you are looking for in a wedding venue.

Located at 631 South Main it boasts original brick walls and hardwood floors.  The lovely Kathy Barefoot took us on the tour and explained that rental includes seating for up to 100 with chairs, tables and white, ivory or black linens.  Catering is done by The Green Room.  For more information check out their website at http://theloftatfallspark.com
